Church & Society eNews – March 2013

The theme of the March 2013 edition of the Church of Scotland’s Church & Society Council newsletter is ‘Campaigning’.

There is news about a movement called Enough Food for Everyone IF, a coalition of over 150 organisations (including the Church of Scotland) calling for change.  Recently launched across the UK, the campaign aims to eradicate global hunger for good.

Another article features a report, entitled The lies we tell ourselves: ending comfortable myths about poverty, which has been published by the Baptist Union of Great Britain, the Church of Scotland, Methodist and United Reformed Churches. It confronts the most common myths told about people who are in poverty or in receipt of benefits, and highlights some of the most abused statistics.

Elsewhere in the newsletter, there is an update from the Jubilee Debt Campaign, information about Earth Hour 2013, which is happening on Saturday 23rd March, and a link to a list of steps that people can take to stop violence against women.
