Record-breakers!

The World Record for the longest ever non-stop game of 5-a-side football was claimed last weekend.

Representatives from a number of Boys’ Brigade companies, including our own 1st Cumbernauld Company, played continuously from 10pm on Thursday 11th to 9am on Sunday 14th September at Broadwood Stadium – with permitted breaks, a total of 55 hours, beating the previous record by two hours. All the documentation now has to be ratified by Guinness World Records, but we hope our record will soon be an ‘official’ one.

Under the title ‘Engage a Generation – the Seven Summit Challenge’ (shorted to Engage 7 Summits) this was an astonishing feat of both organisation and stamina and involved not just the 16 players but many support staff. Congratulations are due to everyone involved; it was truly an amazing effort.

Find out more on the Engage 7 Summits Facebook page – and, yes, donations would be most welcome!

Church News

We’ll soon be making a temporary change to the way we post our news: rather than updating our main website each week, we’ll be putting our church news here on our blog page.

If you want, you can sign up for email updates so you don’t miss anything that’s going on – see the link on the right – or you can just visit us here whenever you wish. And, of course, we’ll have a link on our website so you don’t have to worry about where to find this blog if you are new to it.

We hope to resume our usual website updates in November, as well as updating our blog as required.

Messy Church returns!

Messy ChurchNext Sunday afternoon (14th September) sees the return of Messy Church at the Forge Centre, Balloch after our summer break. The fun starts at 3pm and this month we’ll be looking at part of the story of Moses – the baby in the bullrushes – and there will be songs, stories, crafts, activities and finishing with a meal together. Messy Church is for everyone and we look forward to seeing you there.

Webb Ivory Catalogues

Last year, cards and gifts ordered through Webb Ivory catalogues raised over £200 for Church funds. The new books for 2014 are now available and, if you wish to have a look at one and better still order from one, then please see Wilma Shepherd or Elizabeth Snedden at church any Sunday.

These catalogues are a quick and easy way of buying cards and gifts, while at the same time raising money for the church.

Sacrament of Holy Communion

We’ll be celebrating the Sacrament of Holy Communion in church next Sunday, 7th September with a joint service in the Parish Church at 11.00am. This replaces our usual two services at 10.15am and 11.45am. Anyone wishing a lift from Balloch should please meet at the Forge Centre by 10.30am. The J Team should meet at the church at 10.45am. (The Sunday School at Balloch starts the following Sunday, 14th September.)

There will also be a less-formal Communion Service at 6.30pm in the Parish Church and non-alcoholic wine will be used at this service. All are welcome at either or both services.
