Christian Aid Week update

Christian Aid Week 2016 Thank-YouWe’ve now counted all the donations received from the house-to-house collection in Cumbernauld Old Parish during Christian Aid Week and are delighted to report that the sum raised was an excellent £1880.70.

But the good news doesn’t end there: of that sum £1110.60 was given under Gift-Aid, so with a basic rate of tax at 20%, this will add a further £222.12 to the total.

Plus, a further £250 for Christian Aid Week was raised at our Boys’ Brigade annual display, giving a grand total of £2352.82 – a magnificent effort. Well done to all our collectors and donors!

Village Food Bank – One Year On

The following article was printed in our recent Church Magazine. We thought it worth sharing…

Having supported the Cornerstone food bank for some time with weekly food donations from our congregation, Cumbernauld Old Parish Church decided to offer additional help in the form of a satellite food bank in our area too. Thus with the support of our friends at Cornerstone, the Village food bank opened its doors in April 2015 at the Session House in the Village.

The Cumbernauld Village food bank is open in the church Session House on Friday mornings from 11 – 12.30 to provide not just food and toiletries but support and a welcome for some of the most vulnerable in our community. Advice can be given regarding courses on basic cooking and budgeting as well as providing information regarding other agencies who may be of help. An important function is to provide a relaxed friendly place where people can come to share and chat over a coffee and feel valued.

Fundraising News from Cumbernauld Old

There are couple of fundraising activities coming up over the summer and we thought we’d let you know what we have in the pipeline so you can put the dates in your diaries and also decide how you may be able to help.

Summer Garden Party on Saturday 9th July
A summer garden party is being held in the Manse grounds on Saturday 9th July from 11.00 am till 1.00 pm. We are currently looking for donations for the tea room, the summer picnic hamper, home baking stall and tombola and have put up a ‘wish list’ in both the Village Church and the hall at the Forge Centre, Balloch. So please add your name to that if you can help.

Also, if you are able to help on the day, even for an hour, please speak to Janice Smillie, Ivy Fletcher, Elizabeth Snedden, Mhairi Gilchrist, Anne Morrison or Caroline Edwardson.

Plant Sale and Coffee on Saturday 8th October
A plant cuttings and coffee event is planned for Saturday 8th October (a change from the previously-advertised date), so we’re making an early plea to all those gardeners out there to please bring along cuttings from your garden over the summer months for this event.

We’ll post further details about both events as their dates get closer, but wanted to let you know about them early in the hope we can enlist your help. Thanks in advance!
