The Minister, Rev Elspeth McKay, has posted a link to the worship service she has recorded for Sunday 29th March on our Facebook page, and we have also copied it here.

The service can be found at https://vimeo.com/401411664. There is no need to sign up to anything or enter a password; you can just click on the ‘play’ icon to watch, listen and join in. Please do let those family and friends you think might be interested that it is now online, and feel free to share. If you would like to, please do watch the service as close to 11am on Sunday morning as possible so we can all be together, even if we can’t see each other!

Elspeth finishes by saying, “I can’t believe that it is Palm Sunday next Sunday (5th April) and then we will be into Holy Week and Easter. My plan is to record a Maundy Thursday and Good Friday service as well as the services on the Sundays.”

Give As You Live for Cumbernauld Old

If you do online shopping, even if only occasionally, did you know that you could be helping Cumbernauld Old Parish Church as you shop?

It’s all as you down to a helpful fund-raising website called Give As You Live.
Here’s how it works:

Go to the website www.giveasyoulive.com and click on the button that says “Sign up for free”. You will be asked to choose a charity to support – type in Cumbernauld Old Parish Church, click ‘Search’ and then ‘Support us’ when our name comes up. (You’ll only have to do this the first time you use the site.) You’ll then be asked to enter your details and create an account. After that, click on the shop you want to visit – there’s everything from Amazon and Argos to Boots and B&Q – there are over 4,000 online stores to choose from. And that’s it!

Carry on shopping as you would before, the only difference now is that Cumbernauld Old will receive a small percentage from what you spend. And you won’t pay a penny extra! You’ll even get an email to confirm the amount that the church received from your purchases (and, no, we don’t get to see what you have bought or where!)

After that, it’s simply a matter of getting into the habit of clicking on Give As You Live when you want to do an online shop, logging on and then accessing your favourite shops from there. Each time you do, our church will receive a percentage of what you spend. Even if it’s only a few pence at a time, it all adds up.

Give As You Live also offers the opportunity to make online donations and to donate when you use your store cards at, e.g. ASDA, Tesco, etc. stores. We’re looking into these and will let you know how we get on. Meanwhile, our online shopping facility is up and running. Enjoy, but please shop responsibly. Thanks!

Praying Together

Around 11.45am on most Sunday mornings we’d be saying the Lord’s Prayer together in church, at the end of our Prayer of Thanks and our Prayers for Others. While it may not now be possible to be together in church for a while, we can still be church together. In fact, we still are church together, wherever we are.

So here’s a wee suggestion. Let’s come together, wherever we are, at 11.45 this and every Sunday morning (or even any other morning if you wish) to say, as one, the prayer that Jesus taught his followers to pray. A communal act of worship in which we can all share. Together.

Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, for ever.

Letter from the Minister

Dear Friends

I wanted to be in touch with you all to let you know what is happening regarding life in Cumbernauld Old Parish Church.

As most of you will know by now, we received notification from the Church of Scotland that we are to cease gathering for worship immediately and that also applies to all activities that bring people together.  We are very saddened by this but you can still attend ‘virtual worship’ which will be recorded and if you would like to receive this, please let the Admin Group know and they can send you a weekly email with a link to the service.  Their email is Cumbernauld_old@outlook.com.

We will also be starting up a Facebook page for Cumbernauld Old and the plan is that there will be a short thought for the day posted there along with other ideas that will help us stay connected.  Please do link up with this Facebook page and post ideas and worship resources. There will also be regular updates to this blog.

Please do let us know any way that we can help, from a weekly telephone call just to check in to running errands.  We have volunteers who are ready and willing to help.  If you are speaking to anyone who might not be able to read this, please do let them know.

Please do all keep safe and if there is anything that we can do, please do let us know.  Feel free to contact your Elder or me directly.  The Manse number is 01236 728853.

We are living through very uncertain and upsetting times.  Please never feel alone, the Lord our God is with us through all of this and beyond.

Fairtrade and Fellowship

After our Fairtrade-themed service at Cumbernauld Old Parish Church on Sunday 8th March, we will be holding the first of our “Fairtrade and Fellowship” ‘warm welcome’ events. These will take place about four times throughout the year and will always co-ordinate with a Fairtrade stall. We invite those attending worship to stay in Church after our service on Sunday to enjoy Fairtrade tea / coffee / home baking and to engage in Fellowship with your Church family. Please also take the opportunity also to visit our Fairtrade stall.
