Worship for Sunday 29th November

Please join us for worship online at Cumbernauld Old Parish Church this Sunday, 29th November, the First Sunday in Advent. Our worship service is led by our minister, Rev Elspeth McKay and is available here and also below.

While you are welcome to join us in worship at any time, why not set aside some time around 11am on Sunday morning if you can. Many of us worship online at that time and it’s good to know that in some way we will be worshipping together, even if we are in different locations.

Advent and Christmas 2020

Despite the continuing restrictions we will still have many of our usual worship services over Advent and Christmas, although they will be mostly online this year. There are also one or two additional activities that we’ll let you know about as they come along.

First of all, there will be an online Advent Calendar which will be published every day from 1st December to 24th December on our Facebook page with links also on our church website  Each day there will be a Bible reading and reflection and some days will have art, music or video as well. Watch this space!

Later, in mid-December, we will bring you ‘Journey to Bethlehem,’ an interactive Advent trail through the Parish telling the Christmas story which can be done individually at any time. There will be posters and a trail to follow. The posters will have QR codes which will link to relevant Bible readings and downloadable activities for younger people. Think of a ‘treasure trail’ with the treasure being the Christmas story! See more here.

We will also be having our Nativity / Gift Service, Rainbow Service, Watchnight Service and Christmas Day Worship online this year. Links will be posted on 13th December for the Nativity / Gift Service and the Rainbow Service, on 24th December for the Watchnight service and 25th December for Christmas Day Worship.

So whether you are celebrating with family or friends or on your own we hope you will be able to join us.

Christmas is not cancelled!

Yes, we know it is still mid-November, but we wanted to put the message out there that Christmas is not cancelled! Although we won’t be able to do ‘Follow the Star’ again this year due to all the restrictions, we have other things ‘up our sleeve’ to celebrate Christmas and the birth of Christ in 2020.

First of all, there will be an online Advent Calendar which will be published every day from 1st December to 24th December on our Facebook page and Church website. Each day there will be a Bible reading and reflection and some days will have art, music or video as well.

There will also be an interactive ‘Journey to Bethlehem,’ an Advent trail through the Parish telling the Christmas story which can be done individually at any time. There will be posters and a trail to follow. The posters will have QR codes which will link to relevant Bible readings and downloadable activities for younger people. Think of a ‘treasure trail’ with the treasure being the Christmas story! Read more here.

We will also be having our Nativity / Gift Service, Rainbow Service, Watchnight service and Christmas Day Worship online only this year. Links will be posted on 13th December for the Nativity / Gift Service and the Rainbow Service, on 24th December for the Watchnight service and 25th December for Christmas Day Worship.

So, we can say for certain that there’s lots going on and that Christmas has definitely not been cancelled this year. Watch this space!

Time for Reflection

Sunday 15th November also sees our next ‘Time for Reflection’ in Cumbernauld Old Parish Church. The Time for Reflection starts at 11am and provides an opportunity for people to come and reflect and pray for half an hour in the church building.

In order to ensure as safe an environment as possible and to comply with current guidelines, we need to limit the number of people who can attend and so we would invite those who wish to attend to let us know in advance.

Remembrance Sunday 2020

Red remembrance poppyYou are warmly invited to join us for worship on Sunday 8th November, Remembrance Sunday. Our prerecorded worship service, led by our minister Rev Elspeth McKay, is available here.

We appreciate that many will be disappointed that there will be no service at the War Memorial this year but, hopefully, you will understand the current circumstances and that this worship service will be a fitting alternative.

As with all our worship services this Sunday’s service is available to all, so please feel free to share with any family or friends. Please also check out our Facebook page for all the latest news from Cumbernauld Old.

Smile with Cumbernauld Old

Cumbernauld Old Parish Church encourages everyone to shop locally wherever possible. Especially in the current circumstances, local shops and businesses need our custom, so let’s do all we can to support those in our parish and community whenever we can.
However, we appreciate that it’s not always possible to get everything we need locally and online shopping is a reality for many people.

If you do any shopping online, there are two ways in which you can help Cumbernauld Old while doing so. One is through Give As You Live, which we have mentioned before and has already proved to be a good way of raising funds for the church. Click on the link and from there you can access a large range of shops and retailers. With each purchase made in this way, a small percentage of what you spend is donated to the Church at no extra cost to you.

Amazon Smile logoIf you shop on Amazon, however, there is a new scheme called Amazon Smile that works in much the same way. For each purchase you make this way on Amazon, a percentage is donated by them to our church. Here’s how it works:
Rather than logging on directly to Amazon as before, instead log into smile.amazon.co.uk, (this link, and the logo on the left, will take you to our page) and if you are happy to choose Cumbernauld Old Parish Church as your chosen charity, then you are all set up to start shopping. It’s still the same Amazon, but by using Amazon Smile your shopping can make a difference to Cumbernauld Old. Thank you for making a difference!
