Worship on Sunday 2nd January 2022

Cumbernauld Old Parish Church, January 2015

You are warmly welcomed to join us for worship at Cumbernauld Old on Sunday 2nd January 2022, the Second Sunday of Christmas. The service will take place in the Parish Church at the usual time of 11.00am and will be led by Ivar Struthers, one of our elders and a Reader in the Church of Scotland. We hope you can join us!

There’s no need to book in advance, but please be aware that the current guidelines are that everyone attending should take a Lateral Flow Test beforehand and, while at church, wear a face covering (unless exempt), leave their contact details for Test and Protect, use the hand sanitiser provided and keep a safe distance between yourself / your family group and other worshippers while in the church sanctuary.

We encourage everyone to use all areas of the sanctuary, including the east and west aisles, and follow the one-way system when arriving and leaving. Thank-you for your help and understanding!

We are having a few problems with our ‘live-stream’ at the moment, so please bear with us while we get these technical issues resolved.

Used Stamp Appeal

As we have done in previous years, Cumbernauld Old is collecting used postage stamps for the annual Church of Scotland Used Stamps Appeal. This year the Stamp Project proceeds will benefit the Women’s Development Centre (WDC) in Kandy, Sri Lanka, which runs a project to support women and girls who have been victims of rape and sexual violence.

The WDC gives these women somewhere to stay, supports them in caring for their children, helps them return to education if they wish, and trains them in skills they can use to make a living when they leave.

Please pass your used stamps to Ivar Struthers before the end of January and he’ll make sure they’re passed on. Thank-you for your support!

Diary Dates

The Ladies Circle are intending starting back, subject to Scottish Government Guidance, on 14th January 2022, meeting at 1.30 until 3.30 at The Forge in Balloch. All ladies are welcome to attend.

The Crafts Group will resume, again subject to Scottish Government Guidelines, on 17th January 2022 from 1pm until 3pm in the Session House.

Christmas Worship

In light of the serious and developing situation regarding Covid19, the Trustees of Cumbernauld Old Parish Church have decided to cancel our planned Christmas Eve Watchnight Service.

There wasn’t a worship service planned for Christmas Day but we still intend to have our regular worship service at 11am on Sunday 26th December in the Parish Church. We also hope to provide a link to a Christmas Eve service that you will be able to watch from home.

Worship on Sunday 12th December

Please join us for worship at Cumbernauld Old Parish Church on Sunday 12th December, the Third Sunday of Advent. The service will take place in church at the usual time of 11.00am and will be led by Rev Allan Loudon. All welcome!

Rainbow Service

Some people have been asking about our Rainbow Service, our service for those who have been bereaved, which has in the past taken place around mid-December. The Kirk Session has decided that, for various reasons, not least the ongoing Covid restrictions, to postpone our service until the Spring. We haven’t yet fixed a date, but we’ll send out invitations and post details online nearer the time.

On Sunday 12th December at 2.00pm we will post a short reflective meditation and prayer on our Facebook page and then at 2.30pm a recorded service called ‘When Christmas Hurts’ from Milton of Campsie Parish Church. We invite you to take a little time out to reflect upon Christmas in quietness and gentleness.

Christmas Gift Service

Our annual gift service took place on Sunday 5th December and, once again, we were bowled over by the generosity of our congregation. Our friends at the Bethlehem House of Bread Food Bank posted on social media: “Thank you to our partners in Cumbernauld Old Parish Church who donated all these toys, plus £400 in gift vouchers and £70 in cash for the Christmas Giving on the 23rd of December. Working together to ensure every child who comes along will have a great Christmas. Praise the Lord!”

Worship at Christmas

Just to let you know that there will be a Christmas Eve Watchnight Service here in Church on Friday 24rth December at 11.30pm and, although there won’t be a service on Christmas Day this year, there will be a morning worship service on Sunday 26th December, the day after Christmas, at the usual time of 11am. There will also be a morning worship service on Sunday 2nd January at 11am.
