Worship on Sunday 2nd April

This Sunday, 2nd April, is Palm Sunday and everyone is welcome to join us at Cumbernauld Old. Our worship service starts at 11.00am and will be led by Rev Fiona Crawford.

Sunday’s service will also be live-streamed on our Facebook page for those who are unable to be with us in person.

Palm Sunday also marks the start of Holy Week, and the Cumbernauld and Moodiesburn cluster of Church of Scotland congregations has a number of worship services taking place next week, see our earlier post for details. All our services are open to everyone, so please join us as you are able.

Lent Discussion Group

The sixth of our Lent discussion sessions on prayer will be on Tuesday 4th April from 1.00pm until 2.00pm in the church sanctuary. All welcome!
This is part of an eight-week look at The Prayer Course, developed by Pete Greig, founder of 24/7 Prayer and is a safe space where we hear from Pete on video, have time for discussion, and a chance to explore different ways of praying.
The group is for everyone whether prayer is second nature to you, whether you struggle with it, whether it’s simply something you’d like to do more or whether you’d like to broaden your understanding of ways we can pray.

Book Group

The next meeting of the Book Group at Cumbernauld Old is tomorrow, Tuesday 4th April. The group meets in the Parish Church at 2.00pm and If reading books and talking about books is your thing, then the Book Group is the ideal place to be. You will be made most welcome.

Adult Fellowship

The next meeting of the joint churches’ Adult Fellowship group takes place on Wednesday 5th April at 2.00pm in St. Mungo’s Church Session Room. This month’s presentation is by Ray McLean on the subject of ‘My Indigenous Canadian Cousins’. All welcome!

Stated Annual Meeting and Congregational Meeting

The Stated Annual Meeting of the congregation will take place after morning worship on Sunday 23rd April. That will be followed by a meeting of the congregation to decide whether or not we wish to change to a Unitary Constitution.

Easter Egg Appeal latest

Now that we have counted, bagged and delivered your Easter Egg donations, we’d just like to say again what an amazing response to our recent Easter Egg Appeal! It may have been our biggest collection of chocolate eggs ever with almost 200 eggs gathered in.

Once again a heartfelt thank- you to all who supported this venture. All the eggs are safely on their way to Bethlehem House of Bread for distribution locally. It‘s truly wonderful and humbling to see such an outpouring of love and concern for others.

Easter Eggs Appeal update

Wow! Just wow!
Thank you so much for your massively generous response to our Easter Eggs appeal. We’ll pass all your chocolate eggs onto the Bethlehem House of Bread food bank over the next few days. (Thanks, Sandra, for the photo.)

And thanks, too, for your response to our Fair Trade service and to everyone who planned it and took part.

Worship on Sunday 26th March

Please join us for worship at Cumbernauld Old on Sunday 26th March when our service will take place in the Parish Church at 11.00am BST and will be led by Rev Fiona Crawford. Everyone welcome!
Remember to put your clocks forward an hour on Saturday night as British Summer Time starts this weekend.

Sunday’s service will also be live-streamed on our Facebook page for those who are unable to be with us in person.

As in previous years we are appealing for donations of chocolate Easter Eggs. If you are able, please bring your eggs to our worship service on Sunday 26th March. All donations will be passed on to our friends at Bethlehem House of Bread food bank to distribute. Your kindness is always greatly appreciated.

Also on Sunday 26th March, members of our Fairtrade Group will be participating in the service and you will have the opportunity to purchase your Fairtrade favourites at the end of the service. Going forward, we hope to have a Fairtrade stall available on the last Sunday of every month and we look forward to seeing you there.

Lent Discussion Group

The fourth of our Lent discussion sessions on prayer will be on Tuesday 28th March from 1.00pm until 2.00pm in the church sanctuary. All welcome!

Based around the Lord’s Prayer, this is part of an eight-week look at The Prayer Course, developed by Pete Greig, founder of 24/7 Prayer and is a safe space where we hear from Pete on video, have time for discussion, and a chance to explore different ways of praying.

The group is for everyone whether prayer is second nature to you, whether you struggle with it, whether it’s simply something you’d like to do more or whether you’d like to broaden your understanding of ways we can pray.

Food Bank Re-Opening Update

Following a recent relaunch meeting which was very well supported, it was decided to reopen the Village food bank in the sanctuary of Cumbernauld Old Parish Church (ie the church itself rather than the session house) on Thursday 27th April from 10.30 – 12.30.

In preparation for this, a planning day is scheduled for Thursday 20th April at 11am in the church. The purpose of this meeting is to sort out the logistics of how the food bank will actually work in the new setting. All interested parties are warmly invited to attend.

If anyone is unable to attend but still wants to be involved please contact Sandra on 07780 452549 or leave us a note below, which we will pass on. Many thanks!
