Sacrament of Holy Communion

The Sacrament of Holy Communion will be celebrated in Cumbernauld Old Parish Church on Sunday 2nd June at 11.00am and again at 6.30pm, the latter being a shorter, reflective service. All are welcome to come to either or both of our Communion celebrations.
There will be a retiral offering after both services for Scottish Faiths Action for Refugees – www.sfar.org.uk

Upcoming Meetings:
There will be a Trustees’ Meeting on Thursday 13th June at 7.00pm in the Parish Church. The main purpose of this meeting will be to approve the 2018 Accounts.
The Stated Annual Meeting of the congregation will be on Thursday 20th June at 7.00pm in the Parish Church. This meeting is open to all church members and adherents and there will be an opportunity to hear about our work over the past year and our plans for the future. There will also be an opportunity for questions about any aspect of our church’s life.

Election of Nominating Committee

On Sunday 21st February there will be a joint Worship Service in the Parish Church at the Village at 11am. After worship there will be a Congregational Meeting to elect the Nominating Committee which is the next step in the vacancy process. (Note: the Nominating Committee is what the church formerly called the Vacancy Committee.)

At this Congregational Meeting we will be seeking to elect up to 13 people to the Nominating Committee and will need a Proposer and a Seconder for every Nomination. It is important that the Proposer has the Nominee’s agreement before nominating him / her. If we get more than 13 nominations then we go to a vote. If we get 13 or fewer then all of the nominees will be deemed to be elected.

A couple of things to be aware of:

  • Nominees do not need to be at church on 21st February; however, Proposers and Seconders do; and
  • Proposers, Seconders and Nominees must all be on the recently attested Electoral Register.

Following the Congregational Meeting and the election, the Interim Moderator and Session Clerk will have a very brief meeting with the newly elected Nominating Committee.

Both the joint service in Church and the Congregational Meeting will be led by our Interim Moderator, Reverend Grace Saunders. Please note that this 11am worship service replaces our usual two services at 10.15am and 11.45am, and so there will be no service at Balloch on 21 February.

Stated Annual Meeting

The Stated Annual Meeting of the congregation will be held in the Parish Church on Monday 13 April at 7.30pm and members are invited to come along and find out what our church’s plans are for the rest of 2015, along with a review of our activities during 2014. Copies of our summary annual accounts for 2014 will also be available for review.

New Year – new start

Our groups and organisations restart this week after their Christmas and New Year break:

  • On Wednesday 8th January the Men’s Group meet at 7.30pm in the Roadside Hall in Cumbernauld Village. The guest speaker will by Jimmy Rexter who will be speaking about the humour of the Fire Brigade.
  • On Thursday 9th January the Ladies’ Group meet at 7.30pm in the Roadside Hall for a Beetle Drive. All ladies are welcome to come along and blow away any January blues.
  • Also on Thursday 9th January the Boys’ Brigade Anchor, Junior, Company and Senior Sections resume at their usual times in the Forge Centre, Balloch.

Looking slightly further ahead:

  • Our first Messy Church of 2014 takes place next Sunday 12th January in the Forge Centre, Balloch with a new start-time of 3pm and aiming to finish around 5pm. We’re starting off the year by looking at some people and stories from the Bible – January’s theme will be ‘Noah’ so expect some animal-themed crafts and songs, and perhaps even a wee surprise with our food near the end of the afternoon.
  • The Ladies’ Circle restarts on Wednesday 15th January at 7pm in the Forge Centre, Balloch with a Games Night. However, don’t panic – these are all table-top games and nothing strenuous will be involved!
