Cumbernauld & Kilsyth Baby Bank

Now that Cumbernauld Old’s support for the Life for African Mothers project has come to a natural conclusion, we thought it would now be appropriate to support new mothers and their children here in Cumbernauld through Cumbernauld and Kilsyth Baby Bank.

From now on, there will be a box in the vestibule of the church and the back of the hall at Balloch for donations. The ‘bank’ would appreciate anything suitable for babies or children up to 7 years of age, e.g.

  • Nappies
  • Baby toiletries
  • Blankets, towels
  • Wipes

Clothing doesn’t have to be new but should be in great condition and freshly laundered. Hand knits would also be appreciated.

You can find out more about the Cumbernauld & Kilsyth Baby Bank on their Facebook page. It is a project of Cumbernauld & Kilsyth Care, Scottish Charity SCO47347

Fill a suitcase for Malawi – Update

160201_015 Fill a Suitcase for MalawiEilidh, Marie and mum Helen have been overwhelmed and thrilled by the wonderful donations of baby clothes knitted by members and friends of the congregation of Cumbernauld Old Parish Church. They want to pass on their heartfelt thanks for all the time and effort that was put into knitting these beautiful clothes. The girls can’t wait to deliver the outfits and see babies wearing them when they go over in June.

The knitting from all the pupils going on the trip is being gathered together and divided among all the extra suitcases, so to allow time for that, could we ask that anyone still with knitting, to hand it in by 15th May.

We plan to hold an evening later in the year when the girls – and hopefully a member of the medical team – will come along and tell us about their experiences. Everyone will be most welcome. Thank you all so much once again.

Please note that if you cannot complete your knitting by 15th May, don’t worry. We are still in contact with the Life for African Mothers project and we will pass any extra clothing on to them.

Knitters in the congregation are invited to help themselves to wool from the basket in the vestibule at church or at the back of the hall in Balloch to knit items for baby bundles for this charity. Any form of baby clothes would be appreciated – don’t worry about dark colours – or six-inch squares to make blankets. More information can be found in our church newsletter. Thanks a million to Margaret Robinson for her kind donation and to Elizabeth Snedden and Anne Morrison.
