Cumbernauld Old congregational meeting

As the congregation of Cumbernauld Old Parish Church is aware, CultureNL took a decision in June last year to close The Forge Community Centre at weekends, which meant that we could no longer hold a Sunday worship service at The Forge. In response the Kirk Session objected to the closure and, in the absence of an immediate solution, decided to hold a joint service at the Village at 11am as an interim measure.

Since then, the minister and Kirk Session have been been pursuing every opportunity to have the Balloch Sunday worship service re-established. Discussions with CultureNL continue, however as we are nearing the point where we have few options left, Elspeth and the Kirk Session thought that the time is now right to hold a Congregational Meeting so that everyone in the congregation can be updated on the current situation and have their views heard.

This meeting will take place immediately following the 11.00am joint morning worship service at The Village on Sunday 24th February and it is hoped that as many people as possible are able to remain in church after the service for the Congregational Meeting.

A Sparkling Lullaby

Cumbernauld Old Parish Church would like to offer a HUGE vote of thanks to Cumbernauld Musical Theatre Society for their wonderful fund-raising concert ‘Lullaby of Broadway‘ at the Forge Community Centre last Thursday.

It was one of these evenings where we were close to running out of superlatives: fabulous, magnificent, sparkling, fantastic, brilliant, and talented were only some of the words used to express our delight at the superb evening they presented for us.

The evening was a total sell-out and every single person there went home with a song (or two) in their hearts. So, once more, many, many thanks and ‘Haste Ye Back’

The Forge Community Centre

Having now heard officially from North Lanarkshire Council that our Sunday let at the Forge Community Centre in Balloch will not be extended beyond the end of September, the Kirk Session of Cumbernauld Old Parish Church has reluctantly agreed, as an interim arrangement, to hold a single service of worship in the Parish Church in the Village on Sundays at the revised time of 11am from Sunday 7 October onwards.

All of us at Cumbernauld Old wish you a joyful and peaceful Christmas and hope you’ll be able to join us at some point over the festive season.

Supporting Christian Aid at Christmas

Instead of sending personal Christmas cards to your friends in the congregation at Balloch this year, why not put a single card on the special board in the hall at the Forge and donate the money you would have spent on cards and postage to Christian Aid?

A box for donations will be placed beside the board and, remember, all funds raised for aid charities are being doubled by the UK Government at the moment. A simple idea which will make a difference to those in need.

Christmas Carols and Songs

Please come and join us in our celebration of Christmas with an evening of Christmas Carols and Songs on Thursday 10th December at 7.30pm in the Forge Community Centre, Balloch, Cumbernauld, G68 9ND.

Enjoy an evening of friendship and fun, especially as tea / coffee and Christmas pies are included in the ticket price of £2.00. Other Christmas goodies will also be available!

Tickets from any Boys’ Brigade leader on a Thursday evening, from Church on a Sunday, or call Alex Edwardson (01236) 724933. This is a fund-raising event on behalf of the 1st Cumbernauld Boys’ Brigade and Cumbernauld Old Parish Church.
